Youth

At Éditions du Bouclier, we firmly believe in an intergenerational approach when it comes to reading. We don't want to infantilize our teenage readers. We are in fact convinced that a teenager can fully enjoy the same book as his parents or even his grandparents. Similarly, we uphold the right of adults to keep dreaming, without being told by an arbitrary label that they’re too old to immerse themselves in certain worlds. That is why we have chosen not to have a separate youth collection.

We believe that our young readers can find what they are looking for in our various collections. However, we understand very well that not every book is suitable for a teenager.

This page is here to help you. You will find here the books we think are suitable for younger age groups (school cycles). This classification takes into account the difficulty of the text, the themes and topics that are addressed and the level of violence present in the book.

If you're unfamiliar with the cycles of the Quebec school system, here is how they correspond to age groups:

  • 3rd cycle of elementary school: ages 10–12
  • 1st cycle of secondary school: ages 12–14
  • 2nd cycle of secondary school: ages 14–17

3rd cycle of elementary school
